It doesn’t get much better than the holiday season. Michael Bublé is on legit repeat, I’m all toasty inside with a cup of something hot in hand and am feeling all those quintessential warm and fuzzies!
It’s also that time to get crackin’ on what you’ll be serving guests for a holiday dinner. Generally my thoughts are that the prep for this is both exciting and slightly terrifying. If you’ve volunteered to take on holiday dinner this year, I’m guessing the feeling is mutual? That’s a heck-yes, I’m sure! I have very little space to work with so entertaining can feel overwhelming at times but I’ve got a yummy, mess-free and cozy, space saving dinner for friends to share with you! Let’s take some of the guess work out of the holidays, shall we?
When in doubt, go with bite-sized edibles = my motto for life! This is pretty much my motto all year round but it’s even more prevalent when the holidays come around. We all have a million different events to attend and need something delicious and sharable in hand. A plethora of small bites make for an incredible meal without the fuss of forks and knives. Appetizer style is the answer, ya’ll!
I had a realized this year that my coffee table has truly become my go-to space for gathering with my friends. Whether I’m having a simple wine and cheese night or just relaxing and talking, we always end up hanging out around my coffee table munching, chatting and sipping away. I decided this year to use it as my table to host for all holidays! This appetizer style holiday menu is low maintenance, totally sharable and let’s your guests easily grab items and snack away.
When preparing a menu, I generally choose 1 or 2 more complicated dishes and then a few others that are much simpler and can be made the day of. The more I can make beforehand, the better and whatever I make on holiday dinner day better be super easy. While I love to make everything from scratch, it’s simply not possible over the holidays…if I want to keep my sanity, that is! The puffs below and chocolate chip cookies were made with pre-made dough to cut down on some kitchen time.
One of my favorite new kitchen hacks and a serious life saver has been these Cookina Parchminum reusable cooking sheets (click to learn more). To make the Brie and Cranberry Puffs, I just laid one of the Parchminum sheets on top of a cookie pan, placed the puffs on top, baked them and they basically slid off the sheet when done. The bottoms of the puffs were crisped just right. I cleaned the sheet in 2 seconds and now it’s all rolled up, ready to be used again. If you can remove a giant pan for me to wash while I’m prepping for a holiday party, you’re my best friend! Ya’ll should seriously try these Parchminum sheets, you will not regret it.
As far as flavor goes, on this year’s menu I decided to go with some traditional Christmas ingredients like cranberries, rosemary, sweet potatoes and earthier tastes. However, being that spice is my best friend I had to throw in some of my favorite international recipes too. Each dish is super savory and herbed up pretty well. I was really happy with all the combinations of flavors on the table. Ok, now onto the good stuff! See my holiday dinner menu below and from my home to yours, happy holidays everyone!
